Not that long ago, we lived paycheck to barely paycheck. One way I trimmed our budget was by monthly menu planning and very carefully planning my biweekly grocery shopping trips. ⠀

It’s been a while since I’ve shared some of my favorite grocery shopping and budgeting tips.⠀
⠀
1) Shop your shelves and then plan your meals around what you have on hand. ⠀
2) Make a list of your staples and the price you normally pay, so you know a good sale price to stock up.⠀
3) Use cash back apps like Ibotta , Rakuten, and Receipt Hog – but don’t just purchase something because “I have a coupon.”⠀
4) Pay in cash – when we were on our super tight budget back when we first got married, I wrote my list and included price with estimate tax and only took enough cash to pay for everything on my list. ⠀
5) Eliminate food waste by repurposing leftovers and getting creative with fresh produce.⠀
6) Find a local chain of grocery stores that have good store brands. My go to stores are Fareway and Aldi. You will pay for that name brand when store brands are just as good, or even better! ⠀
⠀
What is your biggest struggle when sticking to a grocery budget?

I am obsessed with Ibotta and using what I have!

Sticking to our meal plan always gets me! I can plan/shop for the week, then something comes up and we don’t end up eating everything

When things were really bad with COVID, I was only doing pickup so I had to use Kroger and Walmart. I paid SO MUCH MORE than I pay when I go to Aldi – even with generic Walmart and Kroger brands. I can’t live without my Aldi finds, haha.
